Indian Women’s badminton team cemented their name in the history of the world by bringing home the Badminton Asia Team Championships title. This is not only a mere win in the history of the game but a magnanimous feat that the Indian badminton team conquered by defeating the giants of the game.
The Indian women’s badminton team defeated Thailand by 3-2 in the final to script this victory and the nation could not have been prouder. The entire tournament seemed like watching a sports anime where the strong team takes on even stronger teams and becomes legends.
On their road to victory, the Indian women’s team defeated China, Hong Kong, and Japan - some of the biggest names in the world of badminton. Olympian Sindhu took charge and set India on a path to victory by beating the 17th-ranked Supanida Katethong in the first match.
In the second game, the duo Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand showed their mettle against Kititharakul and Pranjongjai which gave India a 2-0 lead. With initial triumphs in the competition, Shruti Mishra and Priya conceded defeat to Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard after a furious game.
As a showdown, it was on the 17-year-old Anmol Kharb to bring home the historic win. Taking on the world no. 45 Pornpicha Choeikeewong in a pressure situation, Kharb showed the expertise and poise of a highly seasoned player in a nail-biting decider. In the end, Anmol walked away from the victorious, inscribing a solid 21-14, 21-9 win for India.
